Ahoy!

Creating a watch company and producing watches from the initial concept through production takes time! Please join me on the MAN of the SEA Watch Company Facebook page where I post regular video updates discussing the progress of building the brand as well as demonstrating the process of creating these artistically beautiful, hand-crafted, hand-cast, timepieces.

Current March 26, 2025 Update:
The prototype wax models are gated and sprued and already have a couple layers of slurry on them in the process to make the molds. Should be casting next week. It will take a second cast shortly thereafter to finalize the prototyping process and then we will be ready to set sail!

  • Peg Leg Don

Peg Leg Don (Weismantel) fashions himself to be a pirate. A love for the sea finds him on or by the water whenever possible. PLD spent the last thirty years running a web-technology company which he founded in September 1994. Designing and hand-crafting watches is quite a different skillset and is a welcome departure from engineering software solutions.

PLD is paralyzed in his left quadricep muscles and requires a full leg electronic orthotic device to walk. Friends gave him the nickname Captain Peg which eventually evolved to Peg Leg Don.

In his "free" time, PLD composes and records Indy and Island styled music (including "Let's Go!", the theme music from The Journey is the Destination series on the MAN of the SEA Facebook page).

  • Cruisin' Susan (the mermaid)

In life's amazing adventure, there is no better partner for Peg Leg Don, than Cruisin' Susan the Mermaid. You can often find her salt-crusted on a long beach walk picking up nature's treasures or cruising turquoise waters to tropical vistas by boat.

Susan's artistic endeavors have her working with multiple natural media including driftwood, shells, fossils, shark teeth and sea glass. She also paints and has worked in epoxy resin art as well.

While nature, overall, is her muse, it is the sea that inspires this water loving mermaid the most!

  • Bronzart Foundry, Inc.

We are thrilled to partner with Bronzart Foundry Inc. of Bradenton, Florida for the casting of our watch components. Founded in 1979 in Sarasota, Florida, Bronzart is a fine-arts foundry known for lost-wax casting. They have worked on pieces from the 20 foot by 40 foot, 20,000 pound, Flying Fish sculpture at The Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas to the Ted Williams statue outside of Fenway Park in Boston, MA. Bronze casting is both an artistic endeavor as well as an extremely technical process. To achieve the aesthetic, one must also master the science. We are so pleased to work with artisans of this caliber to create watches like no other!

  • SkullNBone Leather

The Tampa, Florida area is home to many a pirate as well as the annual Gasparilla Parade where pirates take over the city of Tampa for a day (the largest pirate themed parade in the US, a local tradition since 1904). With the local demand for authentic leather items, SkullNBone Leather of Seminole, FL, creates truly spectacular pirate related leather goods.  From hand-tooled sporrans to bi-corns/tri-corns and ornate, hand-dyed & painted hats. We are excited to work with Oana and Nate to develop a line of high-end straps to compliment the MotS design look and feel. Their attention to detail and quality will produce absolutely gorgeous leather straps, also made right here in Florida, USA!
